What It Means for Upperton to Be a Living Wage Employer

We’re delighted to share that Upperton has officially been accredited as a Living Wage Employer, joining over 15,000 UK employers. This is a significant milestone which demonstrates our ongoing commitment to fair pay and ensuring that every member of our team is compensated in a way that reflects the true cost of living.

What is the Living Wage Accreditation?

The Living Wage accreditation is a recognition granted to employers who pay their staff a wage that meets the real cost of living, rather than simply adhering to the government’s minimum wage. It is an independent benchmark calculated annually by the Living Wage Foundation. The foundation uses detailed research into the cost of living in the UK to set a wage that covers the essential needs of individuals and families, including housing, food, childcare, and other necessary expenses.

There are two rates that apply to the Living Wage:

  1. The Real Living Wage – The actual cost of living for all workers over 18, which is higher than the government minimum wage and updated annually.
  2. The Living Wage for London – A higher rate, which takes into account the higher living costs in London.

Why is this important?

The Living Wage accreditation ensures that all employees are paid a wage that allows them to live with financial stability. It is not just about meeting the legal minimum. It is about recognising the financial pressures workers face and ensuring they are adequately compensated for their time and effort.

At Upperton, we are proud to offer more than just the bare minimum to our employees. We believe that paying a fair wage not only supports the wellbeing of our team but also contributes to a more sustainable and ethical business model.

The Impact of the Living Wage Accreditation

By achieving Living Wage Employer status, Upperton joins an exclusive group of companies that recognise the importance of fair pay.

The benefits of being a Living Wage Employer are significant, both for our employees and for Upperton as a company:

  • Improved Employee Wellbeing: By paying a wage that meets the real cost of living, we help support the financial and emotional well-being of our employees
  • Attraction and Retention of Talent: Offering a competitive, fair wage makes us an employer of choice, which helps us attract and retain top talent.

Stronger Business Performance: Studies have shown that companies who adopt the Living Wage see improvements in productivity, motivation, and overall business performance.

We’re thrilled to share that Upperton has been accredited as a Living Wage Employer! This milestone highlights our commitment to ensuring all our employees earn a wage that meets the true cost of living.
