The United Nations established International Day of Women and Girls in Science to promote equal access and participation in science. Upperton marked the occasion with a bake sale fundraiser and a guest speaker.
The bake sale raised funds for Plan International, a charity dedicated to advancing children’s rights and gender equality worldwide. Founded in 1937, Plan operates in over 70 countries, focusing on improving education, healthcare, and protection for vulnerable children, especially girls. The organisation advocates for children’s rights and works on projects related to access to clean water, gender equality, child protection, and youth employment.

Alongside the fundraiser, we welcomed Vanessa Danielson, Vice President of Global Health Economics, Market Access and Reimbursement at Vantive, as our guest speaker. With extensive experience in market access, health economics, and pricing, Vanessa shared her outlook on driving meaningful change in the healthcare industry. As a NICE Technology Appraisal Committee Member, Vanessa offered insights into the evolving healthcare landscape, sharing her perspective on the decision-making processes that shape patient access to treatments.
Vanessa was introduced by Lorna Patrick, Upperton’s Chief Operating Officer, who highlighted the importance of support for women pursuing careers in science.
