Upperton Pharma Solutions is a Nottingham-based CDMO that specialises in the development and manufacture of pharmaceutical products, providing a complete service from early-stage feasibility to GMP clinical manufacture. Role Title:  Sales Manager

Reporting to:  Chief Commercial Officer

Hours of Work:  37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday. Core hours are 8am to 4pm. However, you may be required to work flexible around these core hours as necessary to meet the demands of the business.

The Role:

Due to continued business expansion, we have a new opportunity for a Sales Manager who will join our Business Development Team. The Sales Manager is accountable for the identification of new contacts and customers and for translating newly identified opportunities to our business development team.

The Sales Manager will be seeking new business opportunities on a specific geographical territory across our whole business from early-stage feasibility, Formulation Development, and Clinical Trial Manufacturing, supported by the latest software packages for lead generation.

As a key member of the business development team, the Sales Manager will rely heavily on their existing technical knowledge, along with their understanding of the Upperton business offering.

Once new leads have been identified the Sales manager will nurture potential customers from early/initial contact through to fully validated leads for our Business Development team who will be responsible for progressing to contract signature.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Researching, identifying, and developing new business prospects from multiple sources including market intelligence databases, cold calling, marketing campaigns, company website, webinars, seminars and conferences
  • Understand and present Upperton’s expertise.
  • Driving the process from prospect identification, through to qualified lead with proposal requested and facilitating the “handover” of validated opportunities to the business development team.
  • Maintaining up-to-date and accurate customer data in the CRM system (Salesforce) and generating timely activity reports, metrics and KPIs as requested.
  • Developing sales opportunities by researching and identifying potential accounts, soliciting new accounts, building rapport, providing technical information and explanations, and preparing quotations
  • Territory mapping of key areas in their allocated geographical territory and development of targeted communication plans for identified prospects in these areas.

Essential Skills and Experience:

This position is ideal for someone already operating in a technical sales or customer-facing role, or someone with pharmaceutical laboratory, formulation or manufacturing experience who is interested in a career path and growth potential within marketing or business development. The most vital attribute of a Sales Manager is that they are a highly motivated, self-starter with a drive to research and generate new business prospects.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Chemistry, Microbiology, Life Sciences) required.· Experience in the CDMO or CRO business sector, across all disciplines but preferably from a technical background.
  • Must be able to adopt flexible working hours and be willing to work across different time zones for interactions with clients around the world.
  • Prior inside sales or technical sales experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and computer software handling skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in utilizing the internet and social media tools for researching potential leads.
  • Internation travel may be required
